The Home Office has launched proposals for a new regulatory regime for the UK's private security industry.

The Home Office is seeking views on the Government’s preferred option for reforming the regulation of the private security industry – The document outlines and seeks input of the Government’s preferred option for reforming how the Private Security Industry is regulated with a deadline for responses by the 15th January 2013.

A Career in 8 Weeks: trained and licensed security staff for your company

Mercury Training Services, in partnership with Skills for Security and JobCentre Plus, is offering funded security training for new entrants into the industry who are currently unemployed. It covers security guarding, CCTV, door supervision and conflict management and includes:

  • a 2-week course assessment followed by 6 weeks security training for successful customers
  • training in customer service skills, the ability to work in a team and to solve problems
  • for those who successfully complete the course, Mercury Training Services will pay for their first Security Guarding licence.

This unique 8-week programme will be offered at Security House in Worcester starting in January 2013 and we are looking for security companies within a 20 mile radius of Worcester, national companies with contracts in the area or organisations that run their own in-house security teams, who will have job vacancies to offer the highly-trained personnel when they finish the programme.

SSAIB unveils innovative new website

SSAIB, the UK’s leading certification body for organisations – providing a variety of electronic security, manned guarding services, fire protection, intruder, telecare and other alarm systems – has introduced a brand new website, with a variety of improved visitor benefits. These include user-friendly online booking and payment options, an updated news service, and easy-to-access services for registered firms such as inspection histories, an online shop and online standards.

A mobile version of the SSAIB.org website (eg for those with smartphones) is also available, along with a registered firms portal – accessible via the main site. In addition, the latest SSAIB services are being updated via Facebook and Twitter social media streams.

SSAIB launches UKAS-Approved Fire Risk Assessment Scheme

SSAIB, the UK’s leading certification body for organisations – providing a variety of electronic security, manned guarding services, fire protection, intruder, and other alarm systems – has unveiled an important and topical fire scheme.

SSAIB’s new BAFE SP205 UKAS-accredited certification scheme will enable anyone who’s required by law to carry out a fire risk assessment of a premises, and who employs a specialist third party company to provide this, to demonstrate that they’ve taken the necessary reasonable steps to comply with their legal obligations and requirements under fire safety legislation.
