SSAIB recruits manned services assessors ahead of business licensing

SSAIB, the UK’s leading fire, security and telecare certification body, has recruited two new manned services assessors to join its team headed by Manned Services Scheme Manager Stephen Grieve. Their appointments come in the context of future regulation through mandatory business licensing – the most significant factor affecting the security industry since the SIA (Security Industry Authority) introduced individual licensing under the 2001 Private Security Industry Act.

2015 Business Licensing Schedule

On 30 June 2014, Home Office Minister Lord Taylor, set out the Home Office position on business licensing.  In answer to questions asked in the House of Lords, Lord Taylor said that the Government expects the introduction of the statutory licensing of private security businesses to come into force in 2015. The Home Office is continuing to work with the Security Industry Authority and the security industry on regulation.

Tavcom Training has been chosen by leading certification body SSAIB as its preferred supplier of security systems training.

 As part of an agreement between SSAIB and Tavcom, the 1,500+ installation companies certificated by SSAIB will now have access via the organisation’s website to Tavcom online courses covering a wide range of Access Control, Intruder Alarms, CCTV and IP network issues. The website also highlights an option available via Tavcom, to achieve the City & Guilds Security Systems NVQ and underpinning knowledge qualifications, whilst SSAIB members will also receive a 20% discount on all Tavcom classroom and workshop based training courses conducted at its Bishops Waltham, Hants training centre.

SSAIB celebrates its 20th anniversary at IFSEC show

SSAIB celebrates its 20th anniversary at IFSEC show

SSAIB, the UK’s leading certification body – which celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2014 – will be at IFSEC at its new London ExCeL home on stand F1375 for this year’s show.

The number of SSAIB-registered firms now stands at a record 1500+ and includes companies providing electronic security, intruder alarms, manned protection, fire detection systems, as well as new services such as telecare monitoring systems for the social alarms sector. Throughout IFSEC, representatives including SSAIB’s new Compliance and Scheme Manager, Malcolm Craighead, and Stephen Grieve, SSAIB’s Manned Services Scheme Manager, will be available to answer queries and discuss specific issues that concern registered firms.
