SSAIB assesses first company to new British Standard for Investigative Services

SSAIB, the UK’s leading fire, security and telecare certification body for organisations, recently completed an assessment of Probe Investigations (UK) Ltd in a pilot scheme that tested the company against the newly published British Standard 102000 for Investigative Services.  http://www.probeuk.com

The Liverpool based professional investigation firm achieved the requirements of the draft standard, prior to its publication, and is the first such company that SSAIB has assessed against BS 102000:2013. This code of practice provides recommendations for the conduct, management, staffing and operational accountability for the provision of investigative services, and can be used by investigative services buyers/customers.

Subject to Ministerial approval, all regulated security businesses will need to hold an SIA business license from 6 April 2015.

The SIA have been working with the Home Office on the introduction of business licensing. Home Office Ministers have publicly stated their commitment to the regulatory reforms and the introduction of business regulation.

The Scottish Government and Department of Justice for Northern Ireland have indicated that they are supportive of a consistent UK-wide regulatory regime. SSAIB announces accreditation double

SSAIB announces accreditation double

SSAIB, the UK’s leading certification body, has notched up a double achievement with the news that it’s gained UKAS accreditation for two increasingly important standards affecting companies operating in the security sector. SSAIB is now accredited for OHSAS 18001, the British Standard for occupational health and safety management systems, as well as ISO14001 Environmental Management Systems.

The Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) Standard specifies requirements for an occupational health and management system, enabling a firm to control its health and safety risks and improve its health and safety performance. The Standard is already becoming a requirement for some security service contract tenders, meaning that bidding companies can make use of SSAIB’s UKAS-accredited assessment process to gain OHSAS 18001 certification and steal a march on their competitors.
