The Surveillance Camera Commissioner, Tony Porter, has praised the work of SSAIB in helping to develop a newly launched and easy-to-use self assessment tool, designed for organisations to show how they are complying with the 12 guiding principles in the surveillance camera code of practice.
The tool will help organisations show what they’re already doing to comply with the code, as well as what may need to be done in the future. The tool – which comprises an interactive PDF – has also been tested thoroughly with CCTV camera operators and managers.
Commenting on its introduction, Tony Porter said: “This is a landmark moment in my tenure as Surveillance Camera Commissioner. The self assessment tool is easy to use and will really help organisations who use CCTV see where they are meeting the 12 guiding principles, or where they may need to do a little more.”
It’s possible to be largely compliant with some principles and to fall short against others, so the new self-assessment tool includes space to include an action plan to improve an organisation’s compliance with any of the principles. The document comprises a combination of open and closed questions and this first edition of the tool is intended to evolve in the future.
